Paloma Blanca Bride Ashley wore Style 4358 on her wedding day.

Ashley and Eric's wedding day was all about romance and whimsy as they wed on a beautiful fall day in the Hudson Valley. The bride said "I do" in Paloma Blanca Style 4358 which she accented with an elegant bouquet filled with soft pink roses and hydrangeas. We asked Ashley to share more of her wedding details with us:

How did Eric propose?
The day before going on vacation, we made plans to go to Niagara Falls to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Niagara Falls has always been a special place for us because it was the first place that we went on a “date”. We are so lucky because it is a quick 20 minute drive from our house! Eric proposed overlooking the Falls on an absolutely beautiful summer day! What made this even more meaningful for me was that we would be vacationing with my family for the next week. I was so excited to get to celebrate since we live more than 6 hours away from our entire family.

How did you know your dress was the "one"?
When I went  to try on wedding dresses I have to admit, I was totally overwhelmed. Literally terrified. I was surprised to learn that I had such a great time and felt beautiful in so many dresses. I actually am the type that knows exactly what I want. There were so many dresses that certainly looked beautiful but they weren’t exactly me. I tried on my dress maybe 5 dresses in and couldn’t remember one dress after that.  As I was in the dressing room with many beautiful dresses ahead of me, I couldn’t stop thinking about and looking at the Paloma Blanca 4358. That’s how I knew it was the one.

Tell us more about your wedding day theme.
We were going for soft, romantic, but elegant. More than anything we wanted our wedding day to truly reflect who we are. While I didn’t want anything “wild”, I also didn’t want “totally typical”. Our motto for the wedding was that this was our day. If it was something we felt uncomfortable with or didn’t feel like it fit who we were, we didn’t feel obligated to do it. We made our own traditions.

What was one of your favourite wedding day moments?
Seeing my husband-to-be for the first time. I knew a lot of the nerves would subside once I saw him. I was just SO excited to see him-he is truly my best friend and I knew I would feel so much comfort in seeing him. What made this extra special was I asked our bridal party if they wanted to watch the “first look” and they were SO excited to do so- it was so sweet.

When looking to the red carpet for elegant fashion inspiration, the red carpet at The Oscars is hands down THE event to watch. Last night, we tuned into catch all the glitz and glamour and boy, were we ever pleased! From bright reds, to soft creams, chignons to beach waves, The Oscars red carpet was a beautiful sight for any viewer. Here are some of our favorite details from last night, and more on how you can get these looks!

When we think of high necklines, we may think of turtle necks that protect us from the bitter cold of winter. But last night we saw several celebrities wearing this high neck styles with grace and elegance.

Cate Blanchett wore her high neckline dress with a stunning turquoise beaded statement necklace. Scarlett Johanson took accessorizing to a new level, sporting an emerald beaded choker along with a matching deep v-neckline gown. Felicity Jones wore this trend in the form of a heavily beaded halter gown. If this high neckline look is something you love, take a look at several of our Paloma Blanca styles.

Which styles were your favourite?

 Hourglass

Last week we talked about Banana shaped brides, aka the rectangle or column, having a long and slender build.

This week we want to talk about the hourglass figure. In keeping with our fruit trend, think of the hourglass as two oranges stacked one on top of the other...the double stacked orange.

Characteristically, a women with an hourglass figure has a bust and hip that has the same or almost the same measurement, with a waist that is smaller.  So for example, 36, 26, 36.  This means that a size 6 or size 16 bride could be considered an hourglass. The actual number doesn’t make you an hourglass, it is the proportional breakdown of the numbers. While this maybe be one of the easier shapes to dress, like everyone else, our hourglass friends may still run into some fit issues; having clothes fit properly at the waist probably being the most common.

The goal for this shape would be to choose a gown that flatters your curves. When gown shopping, there are a few things that an hourglass shaped bride might want to keep in mind:

If you are looking to show off the curves that you have, bust, waist, hips, then choose a Fit and Flare style. Trumpet, mermaid, or bias cut gown would also be great choices for you.  Ruching at the waist, or a fabulous beaded belt will emphasize your narrowest asset.

There may be some of you who are less willing to show off certain areas of your hourglass and would rather downplay those curves, for example, your hipline. If this is the case then choose a Ballgown or a gown with an A-line skirt. Or it may be something with a more modest neckline, like a scoop rather then a deep sweetheart.

 Heather & John

When Heather was planning her wedding to her now husband John, she wanted a day full of warmth and love. Surrounded by friends and family, she said "I do" in Paloma Blanca Style 4364.

We asked Heather to share more of her cozy winter wedding with us:

Where did you find your wedding dress?
I found my dress on my third shopping trip, and in a rather unconventional way. My first time trying on dresses was in Ottawa, where my grandparents live. I wanted my grandma to be part of the experience, and we almost settled on another dress, also by Paloma Blanca (4104) but I wanted something that hugged my figure a little more. My second trip was with a group of girlfriends on a weekend getaway. Nothing hit me as “the one.” Finally, I made an appointment at Bridal Beginnings, and struck out on my own. Yes, I shopped by myself – no mom, friends, or family. I did have the amazing assistance of Sam, my consultant. We blazed through about 10 dresses with no luck. Finally, I stepped out into the lobby for a break, turned around, and saw this amazing dress on a mannequin. I had to try it on. And after Sam zipped me into the dress, I told her “ok, I think we’re done shopping!” It was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made (second to saying “yes” to my husband, of course.)

How did John propose?
John and I love the outdoors. We take every opportunity to get out and explore, which is why on an unseasonably warm November Saturday, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk in Schenley Park, one of our favorite places to go. I had absolutely no clue what was about to happen – he acted so natural and didn’t let on what he had planned!

After about 30 minutes, we had made our way down to a creek that runs through the park. Spotting a little “island” in the middle, John pulled me onto it. There, surrounded by nothing but fallen leaves and slowly trickling water, he began saying so many wonderful things. And then, he was down on one knee, asking me to marry him.

My favorite part of the story is that, in order to prevent me from peeking had I found the box, John left the wrapping paper from Orr’s on. He pulled the box out of his pocket still wrapped, and my hands were shaking so badly that I couldn’t get the paper off! Of course, it eventually did, and he slid the most beautiful, custom, just-for-me ring on my finger. We spent the rest of the afternoon together, quietly celebrating (and staring at my left hand) before we called our family and friends. It was wonderful to have that time to ourselves before the whirl of wedding planning kicked in.

Tell us about your theme, what inspired it?
John and I were incredibly lucky to have met the absolute perfect wedding planner, Kate Lemos Brown. Honestly, we would not have been able to pull off anything without her. We wanted a winter wedding – cozy, intimate, and rich with texture and warm candlelight. We settled on creamy ivories, subtle gold and silver, and lush, deep red. We picked the Lincklaen House, a historic inn, and basically took over the whole place for the weekend! We really wanted great food, good wine, and only our closest friends and family. Everything had balance – natural materials like pine cones and branches to even out the metallics, and textures that complimented each other. The idea was to make guests feel like they were comfortable, surrounded by friends, and enjoying a cold winter night. Whistlestop Florist nailed the décor – overflowing mantles, flickering candles, and tall centerpieces that made you feel like you were looking up into the woods.
