Emilia and Brian

Couple’s Wedding Story:

DRESS – When I tried on my Mikaella dress style 2016, I knew it was the one for me. In the end, we added sleeves to it because we didn’t know she has a dress with sleeves already! Our seamstress at Heirlooms’ was amazing, dealt with our every request, question and even swapped out our belt last-minute. She was so talented, and I felt like she almost created a new design for me. I knew I wanted lace when shopping, because I’d always wanted something lace and form-fitting, with an open back. I had an inkling Brian would love it as well (he did!), something not too puffy, or large, I wanted to move and be me. When I tried on this dress – it was it – the dress was me.

HOW WE MET – We met via work, when Brian worked at St. Joseph Media in the Accounts Payable department in the Toronto office and Emilia (me) worked at the WHERE Calgary office and we were required to email almost daily for work, and only emailed about work. At one time, I wanted to transfer to the St. Joseph Media Toronto office and added everyone I connected with to Facebook (Brian included) in order to keep up the networking connections. I never went that path (started my own company) but never deleted anyone. Five years after I stopped working at St. Joseph Media, Brian responded to a Facebook message status in which I asked for help moving – he volunteered, and I didn’t believe this guy I’d never met and worked with ages ago was actually going to show up – but he did. Two months after that fateful day – we finally went out to dinner and while out, Brian presented me with a mixed CD of holiday music (because it was Christmas and he said – “you may want to have people over in your new home because it’s the holidays, so I made this CD for you to play in the background…”) I was hooked.

PROPOSAL – It was Valentine’s Day (a holiday Brian hates) and I was working late while he cooked us dinner. I was telling him about an article I shared on Facebook that described “getting married” as not actually being an accomplishment in someone’s life and so often women are only celebrated for those achievements. It caused quite a “movement” on my FB page and as I told him about it, he laughed. I asked what was so funny, and he then he got up and said “well, on that note … I’d like to spend the rest of my life with you …” We were in our living room, eating dinner where we always do, and it felt special. It was very us.
