Mike and I were high school sweethearts. We met in 2000 and dated for two years until graduation when we went our separate ways. Mike joined the Marine Corps and was stationed in California and we went many years without much communication. 9 years later, in 2008, Mike moved home to Connecticut and we bumped into each other while out with friends one Saturday night. We began seeing each other again and have been together ever since. A few months before our engagement, we came across some pictures of us from high school. One picture was from Valentine’s Day years ago when Mike had decorated my entire bedroom with Hershey’s Kisses and colored paper hearts with little messages that he had hung from my ceiling with string. We laughed at what a romantic he used to be and tucked the photos away for safekeeping. The day of the proposal I came home from work and Mike was in the bedroom with the door closed, he heard me come in and asked me to come upstairs to help him. When I opened the door, he was down on one knee, ring in hand, and he proposed. It took me a few minutes before I realized he had decorated the whole room exactly the way he had in high school on that Valentine’s Day years ago. It was absolutely beautiful. Our wedding took place 13 years after we met, on October 12, 2013 at Glastonbury Hills Country Club. It was a beautiful autumn New England day and all of our family and very best friends joined us for the occasion. I wore the Mikaella 1406, the wedding gown of my dreams. It was an absolutely perfect day.
