Tim and I met in the summer of 2013 working at the McMaster University Sport Fitness School. We were both coaches and our passion for teaching athletes and playing sports brought us together.
The first couple years of our relationship was spent 116km apart (from Hamilton to Aurora) and only seeing each other most weekends. I made the leap and moved his way – and we bought a house before Christmas in 2016. On the one year anniversary of moving in to our home, Tim proposed on December 20, 2017 by using our memory jar as a way to pop the question. I obviously said yes and the planning began.
One of my favourite parts of the early stages of wedding planning was spending so much time with my mom, despite the 116km distance (from Hamilton to Aurora) she was able to come to every single one of the dress appointments. My mom was the only one who I shared this special time with and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. We were at Elmwood Brides in Aurora, searching through the racks and she chose one for me to try on that had the softest lace we had ever come across. I tried it on and it was undoubtedly “the one”.
Flash forward to the big day – my mom helped me do up my dress and we shared some quiet moments together in the bridal suite. I wanted to do a ‘first look’ with my dad and my bridesmaids and their reactions are memories I will cherish forever. Of course my favourite moment was seeing my husband for the first time as I walked down the aisle – surrounded by family and friends under a Cathedral of Trees – our wedding in the woods was truly a dream come true.
