Nico and I meeting had to have been fate. This 17 year old city boy from Madrid, Spain was placed in a home for his foreign exchange year in small town Bardstown, KY where he met me! My senior year of high school I met a boy from Spain who ended up easily becoming a best friend. With no expectations of staying in Kentucky after graduation, Nico went back to Spain knowing that I was headed to college at Georgetown College in the Fall of 2014. One morning that summer, I awoke to a text message with a picture of a signed basketball commitment letter from Nico for… Georgetown College. Nico was coming back for college at the same place I was and a part of me hoped I played a little part in that coincidence. Still friends, and making new friends our first semester of college, we had our own groups but seemed to always be drawn to each other. Long story short, thanks to my freshman roommate, Nico and I admitted our feelings for each other and the rest is history. We dated all through college, I went on to medical school, he stayed and got his MBA, etc. Nico went home for what was supposed to be a 6 month internship for Finance in Madrid, however, COVID had other plans. Nico ended up being stuck in Spain for almost a year, until he decided to come back for his Masters in Finance allowing him back into the country. In September 2020, Nico proposed with a picnic of Spanish “tapas”, wine, and a beautifully made photo book with each love letter we ever wrote back and forth during our years of school holidays apart while he went home to Spain or any anniversary we celebrated. It was the most precious, sincere thing anyone has ever made for me. With an easy YES, we were engaged! In an attempt to have his family present for our wedding we planned for October 2021.
Dress shopping at Rebecca’s Wedding Boutique was so fun and special. I tried on a few dresses before trying on the ONE and once that happened, no other dress compared. I saw myself walking down the isle to Nico in a Mikaella bridal gown and felt it only fitting to share the name — different spelling of course — with my wedding dress designer for the best day ever! A simple dress with the most perfect ability to make a girl shine and feel gorgeous! The shape, the train, the material, the buttons — it was perfect!
Our wedding day was a perfect fall day for an outdoor ceremony and an indoor-outdoor reception. We had the greatest vendors — all listed below. Nico’s parents and siblings were able to find their way into the USA, however borders weren’t opening for his whole family until a week and a half after our ceremony. This means we will have another celebration in Spain in June of 2022. 🙂
I love celebrating my love with this man and I am still so thankful that I wore this Mikaella gown! I just want to show it off to everyone! Thank you all!
