My husband, Brady, and I met back in high school and started dating in 2006. He went to public school, I went to private school. We went to Virginia Tech together and then moved back to Alexandria after college. In 2014, Brady got a job in Silicon Valley and moved out to California, I followed a few months later with my two orange cats, Bonnie and Clyde. We started traveling internationally every 6 months or so — from Asia to Europe. Many trips, but no proposal yet! Then in December 2016 (after nearing 11 years of dating!) , while we were back in DC for Christmas at our annual family get together — dinner and the theater — right after our big family photo, he got down on one knee and proposed.
I went dress shopping at Ellie’s Bridal Boutique, my Aunt’s bridal shop that I used to work at over winter and summer breaks in college. I had my bridal party, grandma, mother, mother-in-law and aunt all there. The very first dress I tried on was all lace with a deep V, nothing I had expected and very different than what I had all over my Pinterest. But it was the dress! Classic, a little sexy and just beautiful! I paired it with a 1-tier waltz length rolled edge veil with Alençon lace.
Our wedding day was perfect, minus the torrential downpour the morning of (good luck, right?!). Walking down the aisle I never expected to choke up and cry, but I did.
