Couple’s Wedding Story:

We’re two New Zealanders who met about eight years ago as roommates – it was almost love at first sight despite the challenges of living together from the get-go. I (Jess) proposed to Jon after about 4 years together. I’d just finished my Master’s and asked Jon to read my acknowledgments in my thesis – at the end I thanked him for all his support and asked if he’d marry me. Soon after we moved to Canada (Toronto) and in addition to having the most life changing experience (even before covid!)

I also found the perfect dress online which just happened to be made in Toronto from Paloma Blanca. We moved back to NZ and got married in a vineyard in the region where I grew up, on a perfect hot summer’s day. We didn’t have a particular theme or style but it was important to us that we remained authentic to who were are as people – so we walked each other down the aisle, we both did speeches, we didn’t have a cake, and we asked a good friend to be our celebrant. We feel incredibly grateful to have been able to have a “normal” wedding given the restrictions around the world, although we did miss a large portion of our guest list who were unable to travel from overseas.
