COUPLE’S WEDDING STORY:
Sayid and I were best friends for about 4 years and on December 25, 2006, in a not so snowy New York City, Sayid asked me to be his girlfriend. We have been inseparable since.
We got engaged at the Millennium Lakes Golf Club, Trinidad on November 8, 2015. During the early years of our relationship Sayid and I would often meet at the golf course, in particular the practice greens. Considering this, the golf course was the perfect place for “popping the question”. I still remember Sayid insisting that I take the last ball and on finishing my swing and turning around I found him pulling the ring out his pocket, getting on bended knee and asking ” Shirnella Marie Maharaj will you marry me.” This was the beginning of our forever story.
Growing up and watching “Say Yes To The Dress” I knew the only place to visit to find my dream dress was Kleinfeld. There was a feeling of awe when I first tried on Style No. 4744. It was the first dress I tried on and from that moment I knew it was “the dress.” My veil was my “something borrowed” from my older cousin and wearing the both together made my entire family emotional.
Our wedding was a blending of two cultures. I am a practising Hindu and Sayid a practising Christian. To incorporate our both beliefs and cultures we opted to have two ceremonies followed by one reception of celebration . For the Indian wedding our inspiration was Moroccan and colourful while for the church ceremony and reception we kept it clean and fresh. Our reception was held at the Movietowne Banquet and Conference Centre which was the place Sayid and I first met.
