Amber and Cody

December 2, 2017

I worked as a sports reporter in South Carolina and had a very bad experience. So, I quit my job and thought- where is my next move? My heart was leading to Charleston. I knew I needed to be there. I just needed a place to heal before my next move. Well, Cody (my now husband) got sent to the Charleston River dogs. He knew I lived in South Carolina, and messaged me on Instagram because being in minor league baseball, they had to find a place to live. Backstory- Cody and I went to the same high school. Never talked really, never hung out.

I messaged him back and gave him a couple of pointers. From one nashville-native to another, I gave him my number just in case he needed anything. At the time, I wasn’t interested in dating at all, but we kept texting and talking. Pretty soon he was asking me to come to games. He left me a ticket every game hoping I would come. I never did, because I’m stubborn. However, I did get a ticket on my own with my church group- not telling him.

I got a text after that game, and he says “I see you used my ticket”. He picked me out in a crowd of about 5,000 people. He had been watching for me each game from the dugout to see if I’d come. Well, that stunned me. So, that night I invited him to an establishment and he walked in and it felt like the whole world stopped. Here he was this guy I’ve known since I was about 15… and it took us both being in Charleston to connect as soulmates. That night we went to the beach till about 5 am and literally just talked. The rest is history.

Since then, we’ve moved to Savannah, GA, where I am a sports broadcaster and he plays minor league baseball for the Yankees. We are sports people! So, how he proposed was no different. He created a pair of Nike running shoes that read “Marry Me?”. I was so lucky and blessed to find my dress. He adored it.
