Taryn and Nigel

June 24, 2018

When I got engaged, I had lots of friends and family who wanted to come dress shopping with me. I ended up trying on dresses at seven different stores across Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria. I was really glad that I could have this experience with so many different people that I love, and that I was able to try on a lot of dresses to get a feel for what I liked, what looked good on me, and what would work for my wedding.

I had a great time trying on a ton of different dresses, but I knew that I was most excited to try on dresses at the White Peony, in Victoria, where I live. I had always admired their dresses from the window. Their curation of romantic dresses really spoke to me. There, I tried on my dress on a bit of a whim, as it had a similar top to a different Mikaella dress that I was considering.

When I tried it on, I knew right away that it suited what I was looking for. It had the lace top and deep neckline that I wanted, and the A-line skirt made it feel like it was a wedding dress for me. It was a perfect dress to go from ceremony to dinner to dancing. The horsehair trim on the tulle really brought the dress together. My maid of honour even got a bit teary-eyed when she saw me. I brought my mother-in-law and sister-in-law to see it a few weeks later, and that sealed the deal!

Though we weren’t hosting a very traditional wedding, I did keep the dress a surprise for my husband until the ceremony. For us, it was a fun thing to have the first look as I was walking down the aisle. Though I will admit, I did let a few details slip before the wedding. On the wedding day, it was perfect. I felt beautiful, comfortable, and like myself the whole day, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
