We met in kindergarten, and then Ellen moved away. We then re-met at university and our friendship eventually blossomed into something more. We did long distance for three years across numerous time zones while pursuing jobs and post-graduate studies and finally found jobs in the same place in 2018.
We had always planned to get married in June 2021 so when the pandemic hit, we kept our original date, but like so many couples had to reduce our guest list significantly. We also did some DIY – Hugh and I made our wedding cake and together we salvaged an old frame to make a sign with a meaningful quote. Deciding to marry each other was the easy part – actually getting down the aisle amidst pandemic restrictions and multiple lockdowns was the challenge. But it was worth it!
