Lucas and I met at work when we both worked for a local radio station. Technically I was his boss, and we kept our relationship a secret at work for the better part of a year! 5 years, 3 homes and so many memories, the day had come.
The Proposal: We had gone on our annual trip to Mexico that we take to escape winter every February. Lucas had this big plan to propose the first morning we were there over a cup of coffee on the balcony in the sun (my favorite thing to do). When we got to our room he had discovered that there was no coffee maker! So, instead of making a new plan, that night when I got out of the shower to go down to dinner, I came out of the bathroom with a towel on my head, and him down on one knee with our favorite song by Blue Rodeo playing in the background. He said four simple words: “Will you marry me?”. I responded with: “I HAVE A TOWEL ON MY HEAD!” Needless to say I started bawling, said yes and we began our journey as an engaged couple!
The Wedding: We didn’t waste any time getting things together. We knew we wanted a rustic, laid back, romantic feel at our wedding. What better way than to do it at a log cabin over looking the city scape of downtown Edmonton! We had 120 of our dear friends and family celebrate our big day on May 11, 2019 which by fluke happened to be my deceased Uncle’s birthday (I was very young when he passed and I had no idea that this was his birthday, it was just the day we settled on). It was meant to be as my family now has happy memories of this day. I believe he was looking down on us on our wedding day because 5 days before our wedding, it snowed like crazy and on our big day there wasn’t a cloud in the sky! Probably the nicest day of the year that we had seen yet! We had a toonie bar, an amazing bbq dinner with a baked potato bar, and danced the night away! We are now 3 months married, and am falling more in love with Lucas every single day. It truly was the best day ever and our hearts are so full.
The Dress: I went into dress shopping thinking I wanted a empire waist and something flowy. When the consultant at Novelle Bridal brought in Mikaella – 2154, I thought there was no way that’s going to look good on me. Boy, was I surprised – I felt like this dress was meant for my body!! It flattered every curve and I needed almost zero alterations! The best part is I got to wear my mom’s veil from her wedding day, and it matched the dress perfectly without changing anything.
